Sore Feet and Aching Legs

If you work retail, are pregnant or spend a lot of time on your feet during the day, then you will well understand that feeling of achy legs and feet by the end of your day. It may strike at any time... or if you're really busy, you may not even realise it until you take a moment to sit down and relax, and then it hits you!

Sore feet and legs

So other than good footwear and rest, what can you do to help?

Our suggestion... Essential Oils! They are potent, therapeutic and smell great, but most of all, they work quickly and effectively. But not all essential oils are safe to use on the skin, and not all are safe during pregnancy so make sure you check with one of our friendly in-store Naturopaths first if you're not 100% sure first!

If you're not pregnant, a mixture of Lavender and Peppermint essential oils are a great combination for achy legs and feet. Simply dilute 3 drops of each into 10mL of Jojoba oil and massage into your feet and legs to help relieve the pain and relax the muscles.

Peppermint oil is great for muscle aches and pains, and has a lovely cooling effect on the skin when applied topically. Peppermint should be used with caution in pregnancy, especially in your first two trimesters. There is some evidence to suggest that in small amounts it is fine to use in the last trimester, provided there are no known issues or complications. But always check with your doctor or midwife before using anything during pregnancy, just to be on the safe side!

springfields lavender essential oil

Lavender oil is great for muscle and nerve relaxation and is safe during pregnancy, so if you are pregnant simply use Lavender oil in Jojoba (without the peppermint) and enjoy it's calming and relaxing properties. It can even help you get a good night sleep.

For swelling associated with sore feet and legs, try having a hot bath (as hot as you can stand) to get all the fluid and blood moving nice and freely. Once you hop out of the bath use the essential oils in Jojoba oil and massage in the direction that the fluid is trying to drain, from your feet towards your knees and hips. This will help it along a little. Do this for a few minutes, or get a loved one to do it for you, then lay down and elevate your feet for a while.

For high quality essential oils that are 100% pure, potent and therapeutic, we recommend Springfields essential oils. They are great value and very concentrated so you only need to use a very small amount.  A little bit really does go a long way. You'll find our range of Springfields Oils in store today so pop in and grab some Lavender, Peppermint and Jojoba and give it a go.
